The New Zealand First Team
Erika Harvey, Candidate for Tauranga
Erika moved to her husband’s hometown of Tauranga in 2009. Together, they partner in a long line fishing company that is globally recognised for quality, sustainability and innovation. This first-hand experience of the challenges facing small business owners has seen Erika become a staunch advocate for the success of the local economy. It is her aim to help build Tauranga into a more vibrant and resilient city, promoting inclusive economic development and community prosperity.
Erika’s professional experience spans two decades in corporate sales and marketing across multiple industries internationally. She now puts her entrepreneurial skills to use within her own businesses, specialising in innovation technology, strategic investment and start up mentoring. Erika is a keynote speaker and is currently an accredited mentor for Business Mentors NZ. She has previously also been a member of the Institute of Directors, and a Young Enterprise Scheme program judge.
Erika believes her success to date is based primarily on her ability to build strong and long-lasting relationships, and her pragmatic approach to getting things done. She fought tirelessly to bring multiple stakeholders together to resolve long-standing issues surrounding the Tauranga Marine Precinct, for the benefit of many local marine businesses, their employees and the city. Her determination resulted in the establishment of the Tauranga City Council’s Marine Precinct Advisory Committee, of which she remains an active contributor and member.
After her daughter was diagnosed with autism in 2014, Erika dedicated herself to understanding what support was available. This experience ignited a desire to see true equity for all New Zealanders with additional learning needs. Through this journey, Erika has become a well-known community leader and voice for those who have been marginalised or disadvantaged. More recently, Erika has become an advisor for Child Development Services (CDS) in the Bay of Plenty, collaborating with the DHB to provide expertise on the development and implementation of service improvement opportunities. She is also the Chairperson for the Board of Trustees for Greerton Village School, and also sits on the Board for Tauranga Youth Development Team.
It is the alignment of NZ First’s fundamental principles, with her own personal values, that convinced Erika to stand for election. Prior to being selected as the Tauranga candidate for NZ First, she became the Chairperson of the Tauranga Electorate Committee. It is her action-based tenacity and resolve, along with a passion for equity and unified collaboration, that makes Erika an ideal candidate for Tauranga, New Zealand First and for all New Zealanders.
