Mark Patterson

New Zealand First List MP based in Clutha-Southland, Spokesperson for Agriculture and Primary Industries, Biosecurity, Christchurch EQ Recovery and Land Information.

Mark is a fourth generation sheep and beef farmer from Otago.

Born and raised on the family farm in Southbridge, Canterbury, he moved South in n 2004, firstly to farm at Ngapara, North Otago, and in 2008 to Lawrence.

Along the way, Mark has also worked  in the rural servicing industry in Marlborough.

Mark co-founded the Meat Industry Excellence Group (MIE) in 2013 and was Deputy Chairman of the group for a period in 2014/15.

With MIE, Mark  worked with shareholders seeking to block the sale of Silver Fern Farms to Shanghai Maling.

It was through this process he  forged a working relationship with New Zealand First as the Party were also fighting the same cause.

Mark  represented Canterbury in cricket for 14 seasons, as well as  Canterbury under 20, Canterbury B in 1994/5 and North Otago for four seasons.  He also played  semi-professional cricket in the Kent League in England.

Mark’s been active in the Lawrence community serving on the Lawrence Area School Board of Trustees, Chair of the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail Trust, and on the boards of the NZ Century Farm Awards and Simpson Park Sporting Complex.

He is a  proud New Zealander and has  a strong egalitarian ethos and work ethic.
