Hon Alfred Ngaro

Hon Alfred Ngaro is a former New Zealand Cabinet Minister, community leader, pastor, and governance specialist with more than 35 years of leadership experience across faith, government, and community development.

Before entering Parliament, Alfred worked as a registered electrician and spent two decades in Christian and community ministry, developing a passion for strengthening families, communities, and future leaders. 

Elected to Parliament in 2011, he served for nine years as a Member of Parliament and Minister of the Crown, leading portfolios including Community and Voluntary Sector, Pacific Peoples, Social Housing, and Children, while championing community-led solutions and social investment. 

Since leaving Parliament, Alfred has advised governments, Indigenous leaders, and organisations across New Zealand, the Pacific, Africa, Taiwan, and Israel on governance and leadership. A recipient of the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Award, Alfred is passionate about equipping the next generation of leaders for the future of New Zealand.

As part of the New Zealand First team, Alfred is reconnecting with communities across the country, listening to New Zealanders and discussing the opportunities and challenges facing our nation. Alfred is married to Moka, and together they have four children and two grandchildren.
